CHARLOTTE OEPKES May 28, 1911 - April 9, 2009 A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, good friend, and neighbour passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2009. Charlotte was born on May 28, 1911 in Hamburg, Germany, the second of five children. As a young woman she tremendously enjoyed her employment as a secretary in a prestigious insurance company. She married her beloved Johann in 1943 and they were blessed with a daughter, Monika, and a son, Joachim. The family settled in Winnipeg in 1954 for more opportunities and a peaceful life, post-war. She and Johann were a good team and the family thrived. She worked hard outside the home and had a unique ability to make all things special, adding her unique touch, enjoyed by family and friends alike. She was also an outstanding homemaker with excellent cooking and baking talents. Lotti had many friends in various parts of the world with whom she maintained correspondence over the years. She was a regular for years at Eaton's Valley Room where a table was reserved for their Thursday morning Kaffee Klatsches. She was an avid reader, loved her afternoon soaps, movies, gardening, and above all, socializing with family, friends, and neighbours, and was a member of the Riverview Good Neighbours Club #1. The time spent socializing with her children's friends were special to her and all who got to know her enjoyed her wicked sense of humour and fun loving character. She was a loving wife and devoted mother, adored by her husband who predeceased her in 2003; her children Monika and Joachim, and two grandsons Andrew and Nelson and their mother Lydia (Bill); one granddaughter Vanessa (Brent), and the recent addition of twin greatgrandchildren, her namesake Charlotte and Dahlia. All will sadly miss her. Lotti spent eight years in the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg where she was lovingly cared for by the wonderful staff. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg staff fund, 276 Hugo Street North Winnipeg, MB R3M 2N6, would be appreciated. A service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Home. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 BROADWAY, WINNIPEG, MB R3C OX4 783-7211 Send expressions of sympathy at www.mem.com
